On the last morning of our annual deer-hunting trip I
had a small six-point walk past my stand around the 8 o'clock hour. As he
walked past within ten yards of my stand, I was thinking that in a couple of
years this may be a shooter.
At 8:30 I got a glimpse of this nine-pointer triing to sneak thru to his
bedding area. Knowing I had only one small shooting lane in the direction he
was heading, I knew I had to grunt stop him when he entered my lane.

Drawing back my bow I waited until he hit the open spot. One quick grunt
and he made his fatal mistake by stopping. The release felt perfect as my
arrow sailed toward its target. With a bolt the buck made his final run for
the cornfield.
Waiting for about 30 minutes, I lowered my bow and myself from my stand.
Finding the spot where the buck was standing when I shot I found a good
blood trail. Easy tracking soon led me to this nice nine-point buck.
What a great ending to a fun filled week of deerhunting with my brother, his
four
boys and one of my sons
