Hiawatha's Hunts

Hiawatha's 5x5 Buck

Another angle....with his hunting pal
Buddy

Well November 8th was just a regular day in Saskatchewan. I woke up an hour before shooting time, I sipped on a coffee, put on my gear, and headed out into the cold.  I walked out of the house and headed east towards our oats field.  I caught 3 does eating on a broken bale just behind the house.  I didn't see any bucks with the does so I continued to walk over our oats field scanning for bodies feeding in the field but saw nothing.  I decided to walk off of the oats and up to our alfalfa field which is about a mile from home.

I started walking along the field edge when I spotted a big deer out in the field feeding.  I put my glasses on him and sure enough he was a nice deer.  He was angling away but was still giving me plenty to shoot at so I loaded the black widow (My 7mm rem mag)  and fired.  At 275 yards I heard the thump sound when a bullet hits that I love to hear and the buck took a few steps then down.  He was a nice 5X5 really heavy.  I couldn't fit my hands around his main beams.  I walked back to the house and started the tractor to haul him home.  Dad can back with me to take the pictures and my dog buddy just came along for some much needed exercise.
